NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Riding a modest two-game winning streak, the Niagara University (18-12) travels west to meet Youngstown State (10-14) today in a 4 p.m. doubleheader at McCune Park in Youngstown, Ohio.

Looking to recorded fifth 20-win season in the program history, the Purple Eagles won their 18th and 19th games of the season Tuesday when they beat Colgate University, 2-1 and 3-2, at Niagara Field.

The duo of freshman Jennifer Yee (North Delta, B.C.) and sophomore Tory Healy (Las Vegas, Nev.) still dominate the team and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference offensively, while ranking in the top 30 in seven NCAA categories.

On the mound, the sophomore tandem of Tiffany McCrory (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Brooke Viola (Los Alamitos, Calif.) found their groove vs. Colgate. The pair had a combined 1.00 earned-run average and gave up eight hits.

For the season, McCrory has a 2.79 ERA and 9-5 record in 12 appearances. She averages 5.1 strikeouts per game and opponents are hitting .264 vs. the right-hander.

Viola improved to 5-5 on the year Tuesday. She has a 3.75 ERA in 13 appearances and averages 3.6 strikeouts per game. The right-hander is holding opponents to a team-low .244 batting average.

Youngstown State enters the doubleheader on a two-game losing streak after dropping a doubleheader to Kent State Tuesday. The losses also make the Penguins 1-4 in their last five games and 6-4 at McCune Park.

Freshman Kristen McDonnell is one of five Penguins hitting .300-or-better. She tops the team in hitting (.380), runs (15), hits (27), doubles (6), home runs (5), RBI (15) and stolen bases (6).

Senior Tiffany Patterson is hitting .329 and has a team-leading 27 hits, six doubles and three triples.

On the mound, Youngstown State is led by junior Karie Burnell who has a squad-best 2.73 ERA and 5-3 record in 16 appearances. She averages 2.9 strikeouts per game and opponents are hitting .239 off the right-hander.

Classmate Tricia Hilbish is 5-5 on the season with a 3.46 ERA in a team-leading 10 starts. She has collected just 21 strikeouts in 56.2 innings.
