DOVER, Del. – The Niagara University softball team (7-6) split a pair of games Saturday at the Bash at the Beach Tournament hosted by Delaware State. The Purple Eagles lost 7-6 to St. Francis (Pa.), but then beat St. Joseph’s, 5-3.
Niagara returns to action Sunday against an opponent to be determined.

Niagara fell victim to a two-out, two-run walk-off home run in game one.
Trailing 2-0 after one inning, Niagara scored when sophomore Tory Healy (Las Vegas, Nev.) scored on a fielder’s choice.
The Purple Eagles took a 3-2 lead in the third when junior Ashley Bognar (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sacred Heart) hit a two-run single.
The Red Flash made it 5-3 in the fourth before Niagara tallied three runs in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead.
Freshman Jennifer Yee (North Delta, B.C.) and Healy were each 3 for 4 while junior Nicole Sum (Burnaby, B.C.) and senior Kelly Flaherty (Hastings, N.Y.) were 2 for 2. Healy also had a pair of doubles in the game.
Sophomore Brooke Viola (Los Alamitos, Calif.) gave up nine hits in seven innings of work.

Niagara collected 10 hits and freshman pitcher Katie Gleiser (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Maryvale) pitched a four-hitter with a career-high seven strikeouts in game two.
Junior Lisa Baker (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West), Yee and freshman Heather Lohrman (Newport Beach, Calif.) were all 2 of 3 at the plate.
