Swimming & Diving Lose at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Niagara University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams both lost dual meets Friday to Duquesne University at Towers Pool. The men lost 109-84 and the women, 110-87.

Sophomore Hope Wiles (Baltimore, Md.) recorded the Purple Eagles’ lone victory in the meet, winning the 1,000 free in 11:00.03. Sophomore Zak Brown (Bakersfield, Calif.) and freshman Dane Deehr (Woodinville, Wash.) finished second and third in the men’s 1,000 free with times of 10:35.29 and 10:41.79, respectively.

Junior Pat Garvey (Pine Bush, Pa.) placed second in the 200 free (1:48.15) and the 100 butterfly (53.50), and classmate Kevin Betts (Victor, N.Y.) was second in the 200 IM (2:07.89).

Rookie Fiona Barrass (Port Perry, Ont.) and senior Heather Link (Niagara Wheatfield, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) finished second (1:03.65) and third (1:04.55) in the 100 backstroke.

Niagara returns to action next weekend when it hosts Buffalo at 1 p.m. in the Oxy Aquatic Center.
