BUFFALO – The Niagara University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams both lost their meets Wednesday evening to the University at Buffalo in Alumni Arena Natatorium. The men lost 107-73 and the women 120-82.
Junior Dave Germain (Oswego, N.Y.) won both the one- and three-meter diving events with scores of 161.10 and 189.30, respectively. Sophomore James Polito (Reading, Pa.) won the 50 free (22.32), while sophomore Kevin Betts (Victor, N.Y.) set a season-best in the 200 butterfly when he placed third in 2:12.39.
On the women’s team, freshman Justine Rawding (White Salmon, Wash.) set a season-best in the 200 IM, finishing third in 2:22.63. Senior Emily Zimdahl (Grand Island, N.Y.) won the one- and three-meter diving events with scores of 175.58 and 183.15, respectively.
Junior Lindsay Bechtold (Lockport, N.Y.) took first in the 200 backstroke (2:31.81), freshman Hope Wiles (Baltimore, Md.) first in the 500 free (5:28.15), and freshman Allison Carr (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) first in the 200 breaststroke (2:32.80).
Niagara returns to action Saturday when the women’s team travels to Loudonville, N.Y., to swim Siena College at 1 p.m.
