ORLANDO – An injury- and error-plagued day contributed to the Niagara University softball team’s losses Tuesday in the Rebel Games at the Osceola and Oren Brown Fields. The Purple Eagles (5-5) lost 8-0 to Albany and 3-2 to Troy State.
Against the Great Danes, Niagara committed five errors and game up four runs in the second inning.
In a close game vs. Trojans, Niagara held a 2-1 lead in the third inning when freshman Tory Healy (Las Vegas, Nev.) hit a two-run single to score sophomore Lisa Baker (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca) and senior Lauren Dombrowski (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster).
Troy State tied the game in the fourth inning on an error and then scored the winning run with a two-out single in the sixth.
Rookie Brooke Viola (Los Alamitos, Calif.) gave up five hits on the mound. Healy was 2 for 3 and senior Kristina Killian (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) was 1 for 3.
Niagara returns to action Wednesday when it plays back-to-back games against Cornell University beginning at 4 p.m.
