BALTIMORE, Md. – The Niagara University men’s (5-3, 3-2) and women’s (4-5, 3-3) swimming and diving teams’ winning streaks came to an end when both squads finished 1-2 in the H2ounds Invitational at Mangione Aquatic Center at Loyola College.
The men’s team beat Catholic University, 202.50-108.50, but lost to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes Loyola, 209-109 and Marist, 269.50-63.50. The Purple Eagle women’s team also defeated Catholic, 159.50-156.50, but lost to the Greyhounds, 225-105, and the Red Foxes, 265-69.
On the women’s side, freshman Allison Carr (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) placed third in the 100 breastroke (1:08.57) and the 200 breastroke (2:31.86).
The 200 medley relay team of junior Heather Link (Wheatfield, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield), Carr, junior Jodi Kennis (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda), and senior Kelly Kennedy (York, N.Y./York Central) took second place (1:55.16).
Kennis took fourth (1:03.35) in the 100 butterfly and Link in the 100 backstroke (1:03.61).
For the men’s squad, sophomore Pat Garvey (Pine Bush, N.Y.) placed third in the 100 free (48.25), 100 butterfly (53.94) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:02.82).
Junior Dave Germain (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) finished third in three-meter diving (312.80).
Niagara returns to action Jan. 18 when it travels across town to meet the University at Buffalo.
