Swimmers Fall to Duquesne

PITTSBURGH – The Niagara University men’s and women’s swimming teams lost their third consecutive meet Saturday when they lost to Duquesne University in Towers Pool. The men lost 107.5-67.5 and the women, 114-76.

Freshmen Kevin Betts (Victor, N.Y.) and Kevin Palumbo (Greece, N.Y.) posted career bests in the meet. Betts swam a 1:52.94 in the 200 free and Palumbo registered a career best in the 1000 free (11:18.99).

Rookie James Polito (Reading, Pa.) tied for first in the 50 free (22.75) and senior Nate Katz (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) finished third (23.02). Katz also took second in the 100 free in 50.68.

On the women’s side, the 200 medley relay team of sophomore Jodi Kennis (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda), senior Karolina Bazylewicz (Buffalo, N.Y./Hutch Tech), senior Jen Gerenski (Rochester, N.Y.) and freshman Kelly Kennedy (York, N.Y.) placed second in 1:58.59.

Senior Traci Liberi (Churchville, N.Y.) and Kennedy took second (25.50) and third (26.15) in the 50 free, and Liberi and freshman Mariah Glass (Oswego, N.Y.) went second (55.10) and third (59.50) in the 100 free.

Niagara returns to action Feb. 17-19 when it participates in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship meet in Baltimore.
