Purple Eagles Fall at St. Bonaventure

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams lost their second-straight meets when both squads lost to St. Bonaventure Wednesday night in the Reilly Center Pool. The men’s team fell, 138-66, and the women’s, 161-61.

The Bonnies swept first place in all 26 events but six Purple Eagles posted either lifetime bests or season bests.

Freshman Kevin Betts (Victor, N.Y.) posted a lifetime best in the 200 free when he placed second in 1:54.16. Classmate Brian Towey (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph’s) finished second in the 200 IM (2:14.72) and the 200 back (2:13.65) with personal-best times. Rookie Kevin Palumbo (Greece, N.Y.) swam a lifetime best 2:20.69 to place second in the 200 breast.

On the women’s side, sophomore Jodi Kennis (North Tonawnada, N.Y./North Tonawanda) had a lifetime best in the 200 back (2:24.86) and place second. Freshman Mariah Glass (Oswego, N.Y.) posted a season-best 2:04.93 in the 200 free and junior Jody Pangburn (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca East) had a season-best split in the 400 free relay.

Niagara returns to action Saturday when it travels to Pittsburgh for a 1 p.m. meet at Duquesne.
