BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Niagara University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams finished third and fourth, respectively at the UB Invitational Sunday at Alumni Arena Natatorium on the UB North campus.
The men’s squad tallied 280 points and finished behind UB (1,250) and St. Bonaventure (1,130) and Colgate placed fourth (14). The women’s team registered 386 points and finished behind UB (1,130), St. Bonaventure (867) and Akron (500.50). Colgate was fifth with 56.50 points.
The men’s 400 free relay team of Kevin Klien, Brandon Smith, Andrew Farnham and Nathan Katz, posted a 3:23.73, its fastest time this season. In the 200 breaststroke, junior Brian Griffin (2:15.85), sophomore Joseph Kirchgraber (2:35.82) and freshman Josh Nowasell (2:40.21) placed fourth, eighth and ninth. Both Kirchgraber and Nowasell posted personal best times. Rookie Dave Germain finished sixth on the one-meter with a score of 215.30.
Senior Christen Kane posted a lifetime best in the 200 butterfly (2:18.75) and junior Jen Gerenski also turned in a personal best (2:38.53) time as the two Purple Eagles finished fifth and seventh, respectively. Junior Traci Liberi swam a 55.11 in the 100 free to finish eighth. Senior Alicia Guerrette posted a personal best in the 200 back (2:33.71) to place ninth.
Niagara returns to action Feb. 19-21 when it swims in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships in Baltimore, Md., at Loyola College.
