Swim Teams Drops Meet to Cleveland State


Junior Traci Liberi won the 50 free in 25.95 at Cleveland State.

CLEVELAND, OHIO – The Niagara University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams both lost their meets Saturday afternoon to Cleveland State in the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium on the CSU campus.

The Purple Eagles men’s team fell to 3-7 on the season with a 98-55 loss to the Vikings. The women’s squad lost 119-71, dropping its record to 3-11.

Junior Traci Liberi (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville) won the 50 free in 25.95 and freshman Stacie Thoman (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint) was second in 26.60. Junior Brian Griffin (St. Petersburg, Va.) picked up a win in the 100 breast in a time of 1:02.03 and sophomore Joseph Kirchgraber (Buffalo, N.Y/St. Joesph’s Collegiate) was third in 1:11.61. Junior Nate Katz (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) swam a personal-best 22.15 in the 50 free and finished second. Freshman Dave Germain (Oswego, N.Y.) finished second in the one- and three-meter diving events. He posted personal-bests of 236.18 and 232.88.

Niagara returns to action Feb. 7-8 when it swims in the Buffalo Invitational on the UB campus.
