Gillen, a 2017 graduate of Niagara University, joined the Department of Athletics in August of 2021, as the Assistant Director of Strategic Communications/Digital Media. As the Assistant Director of Strategic Communications/Digital Media, Gillen is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the University's Athletic Department website and social media accounts, while serving as the primary media contact for men's basketball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's swimming, women's lacrosse, men's and women's golf, and bowling. 

Prior to being hired full-time at Niagara, Gillen spent the 2020-21 season as a temp employee for the University, assisting the strategic communications department with day-to-day responsibilities and game day duties, including statistical inputting, record keeping, website maintenance, graphic design and social media

Before returning to Monteagle Ridge, Gillen was a Graduate Assistant in the Canisius Athletic Communications department where he served as primary contact for women's basketball, women's lacrosse and men's and women's cross country/track teams while also pursuing his masters in sport administration from the college. Gillen was responsible for the creation of social media and print graphics, including but not limited to the creation of season ticket books, schedule posters and game day graphics. 

After graduating from Niagara in 2017, Gillen spent the following year as the MAAC New Media Fellow in Edison, N.J. where he was the primary media contact for cross country, swimming & diving, indoor and outdoor track & field, tennis, golf, and rowing. Gillen also assisted the Associate Commissioner of New Media with the marketing, content development, championship operations, promotion, and development of the MAAC brand through the league’s various forms of new and social media, while overseeing the weekly edition of Around the MAAC. 

Gillen grew up in Rotterdam, N.Y. and currently resides in West Seneca, N.Y.
