NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. — Baseball fell to Mount St. Mary's 15-4 Wednesday afternoon at Bobo Field in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Action.
The Purple Eagles dropped to 25-18-1 overall, 19-9 in conference play, while the Mountaineers improved to 21-25, 12-16.
Mount St. Mary's got on the board in the first as Ty Fredo stole home on a double steal as Cameron Biller swiped second to take a 1-0 lead.
The Mountaineers pushed across another run in the second as Fredo singled to score Carson Clark.
Mount St. Mary's sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight times to blow the game open at 10-0 in the third. Evan Meier's three-run home run was the centerpiece of the onslaught, coming with runners on second and third after a wild pitch. Fink was chased with the bases loaded and one out. Reliever Luke Glenn inherited the runners and allowed a run-scoring error, a sacrifice fly, an unearned run on a wild pitch and a run-scoring single by Biller.
The Purple Eagles finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Nick Cote and Tyler Vivacqua singled consecutively, and Green followed with a two-run double to center to score both runners. Niagara trailed 10-2 after four.
Mount St. Mary's added two more runs in the fifth inning with a two-run home run by Cameron Biller.
Both teams were scoreless in the sixth and seventh as Johnny Montgomery came on in relief for Niagara. Jason Green homered in the eighth to give the Purple Eagles a little life with a two-run blast and make it a 12-4 game.
Mount St. Mary tacked on three more runs in the ninth, highlighted by a run-scoring single by Stokely and a sacrifice fly by Biller.
