Niagara University, N.Y. - Niagara Softball split their doubleheader matchup against Manhattan as they fell in game one 7-1 but took game two 14-10 at Niagara Field in Niagara University, N.Y.
Game One
Manhattan got on the board first in the fourth inning as Samantha Kelly homered to left field to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Jaspers took the lead back in the fifth as Natalye DeBus flied out to center field in a sacrifice effort to bring Angelina Gencarelli home to put the game at 2-1. Manhattan added two more runs in the fifth as Samantha Kelly and Brianna Estevez scored off the bat of Lainey Brown.
To close out the game, the Jaspers added three runs in the seventh as Brown, Kendall Penny and Sophia Kiseloski all recorded RBIs as the Jaspers took game one 7-1.
Gianna Graber pitched all seven innings in the circle for the Purple Eagles as she faced 35 batters as she recorded three strikeouts.
Game Two
Manhattan would answer back in the second as Brown homered to left field along with a Kiseloski single to right field to score Angelina Gencarelli to make the tied at two.
Niagara would rally back in the second as Barnett and Adriana Hills scored off the bat from Carmella Phelan. Phelan would then score as Cenname singled through the left side and round out the inning. Marrero doubled to right center to drive Cenname home to make the game 6-2 in favor of the Purple Eagles.
In the third Manhattan would strike within one as DeBus doubled to right center to score Samantha Kelly, Adriana Giomi scored from an Kiseloski single, and Kaitlyn Moody scored from a Jamie Falotico walk to make the game 6-5.
The Purple and White would extend their lead in the third as Hills reached first on a throwing error from the Jaspers to allow Alessandra Carter to score unearned. Barnett would also score off a throwing error for Hills to score unearned to make the game 8-5.
Manhattan would take the lead in the fourth as they scored four runs with Brown, Moody, Jamie Falotico and Caitlin Gaetani all recorded RBIs to move the game to 9-8 in favor of the Jaspers.
The Purple and White would not go away in the fourth as Abigail Ras was walked with the bases loaded to allow Cenname to score. CJ Haney would be walked as well to bring Gibbons home. To round out the inning Haney,
Sophia Chemotti and Ras would all score off the bat of Barnett as she doubled to left center for Niagara to take back the lead 13-9.
Manhattan's DeBus would record a one-run homerun to move the game to 13-10.
To close out game two Haney would double to left center as Hils scored the final run of the contest in favor of Niagara 14-10.
Ryan Hatty started the game in the circle as she pitched 2.1 innings as she faced 16 batters with two strikeouts.
Abbey Steen then pitched 1.1 innings as she saw nine batters with three punchouts. Graber would pitch the final 3.1 innings and record the win for the Purple and White as she faced 14 batters.
