Softball Claims First Conference Victories

Niagara University, N.Y. – Niagara Softball took the first two games of the three-game series against Saint Peter's to earn their first two conference wins of the season of 5-3 in game one followed by a 4-2 win in game two at the Niagara Softball Field in Niagara University, N.Y. 
 
Game One  
 
Saint Peter's got on the board first in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI single off the bat of Carlee Charles to score Kiana Kadena Matsuda. 
 
Niagara answered right back in the bottom of the fourth as Hailey Cenname along with Sophia Marrero recorded back-to-back homers to take the lead 2-1. 
 
The Purple Eagles struck again in the bottom of the fifth as Donnalea Barnett scored from a Carmella Phelan single through the left side to give the Purple and White a 3-1 advantage. 
 
The Peacocks answered right back in the sixth inning as Angela Tremarco singled up the middle to score Matsuda. Angelina Wagner then doubled to right center to score Carlee Charles, Phelan threw Saint Peter's runner out at home to end the inning to keep the game deadlocked at three. 
 
In the sixth inning Ella Sheehan singled through the right side to score Ella Moore along with Marrero for the eventual game winner for the Purple Eagles. 
 
Giana Graber would start in the game in the circle for Niagara as she threw the first 5.1 innings as she faced 22 batters with two strikeouts. Abbey Steen pitched the final 1.2 innings as she faced six batters with two punchouts to record the win for the Purple Eagles. 
 
Game Two 
 
To start off game two in the first inning, Cenname recorded a two RBI single to right center which allowed Phelan and Barnett to score to give Niagara an early 2-0 lead. 
 
Later in the inning, Adriana Hills reached off a fielder's choice which allowed Marrero to score to put the Purple and White up 3-0. 
 
In the third inning, Cenname would record her third RBI of the contest and fourth on the day as she scored Barnett to move the game 4-0 in favor of the Purple Eagles. 
 
Charles would then put the Peacocks on the board in the fourth as she homered to cut into Niagara's lead of 4-1. 
 
Olivia Christopher then flied out to right field in a sacrifice effort to score Bella Nutting, but it wasn't enough to get passed the Purple and White where they took game two 4-2. 
 
Ryann Hatty started game two as she pitched the first six innings as she faced 24 batters with one strikeout and recorded the win in the circle for Niagara. Jenna Martin recorded one out as she faced three batters, Graber would record the final two outs as she faced two batters and recorded the save for the Purple Eagles.

• Niagara improves to 42-31 all-time against Saint Peter's 
• The Purple Eagles recorded their first two conference wins on the season 
• Steen recorded her second win on the season 
• Graber recorded her first collegiate save 
Jolyn Gibbons improved her reached base streak to seven games 
• The last time Niagara recorded two or more homeruns in one game was against Buffalo on April 1st
