Poughkeepsie, N.Y. —Behind a game winning goal from Bianca McGrayne Niagara defeated Marist 10-9 in overtime Saturday at Tenney Stadium.
The Purple Eagles improved to 8-7 overall and 7-0 MAAC. Marist dropped to 4-11, 3-4 in conference play.
Niagara trailed early after Anne Shine gave Marist a 1-0 lead at 13:41, but the Purple Eagles responded with four unanswered goals to end the quarter.
Abberly Dela Rosa converted a free-position shot while playing man-down at 11:06 to tie it 1-1. Delles then took over, scoring back-to-back goals, at 7:56 and 6:53, to push Niagara ahead 3-1. Maddy Gill capped the run with a goal off an assist from Delles at 2:31. Niagara led 4-1 after one.
Delles opened the scoring in the second quarter at 10:38 with her third goal of the game, assisted by Gill, extending the lead to 5-1. Marist countered with three consecutive goals. Caitlin McNaboe off a Jesse Manger feed at 10:10, Amelia Pirozzi on a free-position shot at 7:00, and Madison Leale assisted by Manger at 2:34. Niagara took a 5-4 lead into halftime.
Kate Gaven scored twice in the first four minutes of the third, assisted by Pirozzi at 13:10 and unassisted at 12:11, to take a 6-5 lead. Niagara responded with back-to-back goals from Maive Partlow, assisted by Delles, at 5:20, and Olivia Ng off a Kensington Keane assist at 4:24, to retake a 7-6 advantage. Gaven, however, completed a hat trick with a Manger-assisted goal at 3:32, sending the teams to the fourth quarter tied 7-7.
Ng scored off a Delles assist at 12:33 to put Niagara up 8-7 early in the fourth quarter. Pirozzi answered for Marist at 5:23 to tie it 8-8. Gill gave Niagara the lead again with a goal at 2:08, but Gaven cashed in on the player-up situation off a Manger assist at 1:30, tying the game at 9-9 and sending it to overtime.
Less than a minute into the extra period, Marist's Amelia Angelo received a green card at 4:45, putting the Red Foxes a player down. McGrayne capitalized on the man-up advantage, scoring off a Hannah Kent assist at 4:16 to end the game.
