Niagara University, N.Y. - Niagara Softball dropped two games to Iona with the final score in game one being 5-0 and game two being 9-0 in six innings in favor of Iona at the Niagara Softball Field in Niagara University, N.Y.
Game One
To kick off game one Iona got on the board in the top of the second inning as Jovanna Donaruma singled to right field to drive home Brianna Fischer to take a 1-0 advantage over Niagara.
The Gaels would hit two home runs in the third as Alivia Lichtner recorded the first then Fischer would follow to put Iona up 3-0.
Iona would extend their lead in the third as Sara Pina singled to score Lichtner to make the contest 4-0.
The Gales rounded out game one with a homer from Hailey Guerrero in the sixth to make Iona victors in game one with the score of 5-0.
Abbey Steen got the nod in the circle as she pitched five innings as she faced 25 batters with three strikeouts.
Gianna Graber pitched the final two innings as she saw nine batters with one strikeout.
Game Two
In game two Iona gout out to a lead in the second as Brooke Acker singled to score Fischer. Marylou Piazza then doubled to allow Guerrero to score to make the game 2-0.
In the fifth inning, the Gaels doubled their lead as Guerrero doubled to score Pina and Lichtner. Then Smith would also double to left center to drive Guerrero home to make the game 4-0.
The Gaels would score four runs in the sixth as Pina singled to right center to advance Rachael Morales along with Hannah Werth. Acker doubled to right for one Iona baserunner to score. Lastly, Guerrero doubled to allow Javanna Donaruma to score to allow the Gaels to take game two 9-0 in six innings.
Ryan Hatty started the game as she pitched 4.2 innings as she faced 25 batters with one punchout. Jenna Martin then pitched one inning as she faced eight batters. Then Graber came in for the final out as she faced two batters with one strikeout.
