Poughkeepsie, N.Y. — Niagara fell to Marist 6-1 in women's tennis on Saturday, claiming one point in the singles competition.
Marist took control early, winning two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Tessa Wachtel and Viktoria Lorentzon topped Larisa Kotok and Gabriela Melo, 7-5, at No. 1 doubles, while Yasmin Asnis and Caterina Assi defeated Saloni Tamang and Valeria Mora, 6-3, at No. 2. The No. 3 match between Isabel Garcia and Julia Clarke-Louie against Cloe Clements Sorde and Lola Ungerman was not completed.
Niagara's lone point came at No. 2 singles, where Melo rallied past Lorentzon, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
The Red Foxes took care of business at every other position. Assi defeated Garcia 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1, and Clements Sorde edged Kotok 7-6(6), 6-2 at No. 3. Ungerman defeated Tamang 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4, Asnis outlasted Mora in a second-set tiebreaker, 1-6, 7-5(10-6), at No. 5, and Ella Lindsey dismissed Clarke-Louie 7-5 at No. 6 in a match that did not reach a second set.
