Niagara University, NY — The Niagara women's tennis team opened up conferece play posting a 6-1 victory over Merrimack on Sunday, sweeping the doubles point before winning five of six singles matches.
The Purple Eagles wasted no time establishing control, taking all three doubles matches. Larisa Kotok and Gabriela Melo teamed up to defeat Jordan Phillips and Pia Vargas-Lopez, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles. Saloni Tamang and Valeria Mora won at No. 2, topping Kiana Thompson and Giulia Martins Cavalcante by the same score. Isabel Garcia and Julia Clarke-Louie closed out the doubles sweep at No. 3 with a 6-0 victory over Selasie Senanu and Addyson Stadler.
Isabel Garcia opened the singles portion at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Thompson, and Gabriela Melo matched that dominance at No. 2, blanking Phillips 6-0, 6-0. Kotok cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Senanu at No. 3, while Tamang swept Vargas-Lopez 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Clarke-Louie rounded out the singles victories with a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Martins Cavalcante at No. 5.
Merrimack's lone point came at No. 6 singles, where Addyson Stadler defeated Amelia Greenawalt 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 in a tiebreak.
