Softball Drops Two Contests Against UMES

Game One
 
The contest remained knotted even at zero until the fourth inning until UMES Jada Lacey scored to record the contests first run of the game.
 
Later in the same inning Lola Meyer hit a sac fly to left that allowed Kinsey Mentzer to score to put the Hawks up by two.
 
Mentzer would record her second run scored after Clarke Calvin reached on a fielder's choice. Clavin would then score after Chloe Weber singled through the right side to put the Hawks up by four.
 
Niagara scored their first run of the contest in the seventh as Sophia Chemotti doubled to right center to bring home Kelli Plumaker to cut into the Hawks lead to three.
 
Ryan Hatty pitched the first 5.1 innings as she faced 19 batters, Gianna Graber would then pitch the final two outs as she faced three batters.
 
Game Two
 
The Hawks would get out to an early lead to start game two as Calvin hit a sac fly to center that allowed Skylar Skinner to score. Meyer would fly out to center that brought home Mentzer to extend the Hawks lead out to two.
 
Niagara would answer back in the second as Hailey Cenname grounded out to the shortstop as Sophia Marrero would come home to bring the contest to 2-1 in favor of UMES.
 
Calvin would record her third RBI in game two after she recorded a double out to left center as she drove home Skinner and Paige Perkins to extend the Hawks lead to 4-1.
 
The Purple and White would record three runs in the fifth to knot the game back up at four a piece. Donnalea Barnett singled right center to bring Ella Moore home, Plumaker would hit a single to allow Phelan to come back home, Sophia Mareero would reach first off, an error which allowed Plumaker to score an unearned run.
 
UMES would take the lead back at 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth as Meyer doubled down the left field line to bring home two of the Hawks baserunners of Clavin and Mentzer.
 
Later in the fifth UMES would record two more runs as the bases were loaded as two walks were distributed to allow the Hawks to extend their lead to 8-4.
 
The Hawks would extend their lead out to five in the sixth as Dani Brown singled up the middle to allow Meyer to score.
 
Gianna Graber started in the second game going for four innings as she saw 22 batters, Jenna Martin came in and faced two batters, lastly Abbey Steen pitched the final two innings where she saw 11 batters as she struck out one.
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara moves to 6-2 all-time against UMES
• In game one Niagara recorded three doubles which was the most the team has recorded all season in one game
• Chemotti recorded a season high in hits in game one with two
• Barnett recorded three hits in game two which tied a game high with Cenname against Marist
• Marrero is currently on a six-game hitting streak
