Baseball Swept By Texas State

San Marcos, TX - Niagara baseball fell on getaway day to Texas State 11-0 in non-conference action at Bobcat Ballpark.

The Purple Eagles fell to 0-3, while the Bobcats improved to 3-0.

Noah Konings got Niagara their first hit of the game with a leadoff single, but Texas State wasted no time getting on the board, plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning led by a triple from D. Park.

After a scoreless second frame the Bobcats tacked on two more runs, highlighted by a home run off the bat of M. Salas to make it a 5-0 ballgame.

Rees Kozar and Jason Green both recorded singles in the top of the fourth, but were not able to be brought home. 

Jack Dickinson came in relief of Purple Eagles starter Gage Wheaton and Texas State capitalized, scoring three more runs. Nathan Harb however rebounded for Niagara in the fifth with a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

Nick Cote added another hit in the column for the Purple Eagles in the top of the sixth, but the Bobcats were able to get another run on the board after Andrew Baumgart came in for Harb.

Jacob Brooks recorded another base knock for Niagara in the top of the seventh, while Rece Allensworth came in to pitch and threw a scoreless frame.

Cote connected on his second hit of the contest, but Park was able to get a 2-RBI single in the bottom of the eighth for the Bobcats and enact the getaway day mercy rule.

Cote recorded his second straight multi-hit game

Nathan Harb made his Purple Eagles debut recording four strikeouts

Wheaton was one strikeout away from a career-high with his four punchouts
