Women's Tennis Defeats Indiana (Pa.)

Niagara University, NY - Niagara women's tennis earned a convincing 5-2 victory over Indiana (PA) on Thursday night, sweeping five of six singles matches to secure the non-conference win.

The Purple Eagles' singles lineup proved nearly unstoppable. Isabel Garcia set the tone at No. 1 singles with a hard-fought 7-6(5), 7-6 victory over Lea von Kozierowski. Gabriela Melo followed with a thrilling three-set battle at No. 2, outlasting Maria Moskaltsova 6-2, 7-6, 10-6 in a match tiebreaker.

Larisa Kotok cruised at No. 3 singles, defeating Charliz Tabli 6-4, 6-3, while Saloni Tamang defeated Ifigeneia Kafka 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4. Valeria Mora completed the singles sweep with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Hannah Beitat at No. 5. The lone singles setback came at No. 6, where Julia Clarke-Louie fell to Isabelle Oikawa Torres 3-6, 4-6.

In doubles play, Indiana (PA) actually claimed the doubles point with a 2-1 advantage. The visitors took the No. 1 match as Maria Moskaltsova and Annemiek Sterk defeated Garcia and Melo 6-2, and captured the No. 3 match with Kafka and von Kozierowski edging Tamang and Clarke-Louie 7-6(7), 7-6(3). Niagara's lone doubles victory came at No. 2, where Kotok and Mora defeated Oikawa Torres and Tabli 6-3.
