Syracuse, NY - Women's Tennis swept the top four singles matches to defeat Colgate 4-2 in women's tennis action Sunday.
Colgate claimed the doubles point with victories in two of three matches. Sophia Montero and Amelia Galin defeated Isabel Garcia and Gabriela Melo 7-5 at No. 1 doubles, while Avery Isaac and Rebecca Hess topped Saloni Tamang and Julia Clarke-Louie 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Niagara salvaged one win as Larisa Kotok and Valeria Mora rolled past Carina Cristobal and Sasha Herman 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, but the Raiders held a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
The Purple Eagles turned the match around with a commanding singles performance, winning four straight matches at the top of the lineup to clinch the team victory.
Garcia set the tone at No. 1 singles, defeating Galin 6-4, 6-3. Melo followed with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Montero at No. 2 singles, and Kotok dominated Hess 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
Tamang completed the sweep of the top four positions with a convincing 6-3, 6-3 win over Anya Kunar at No. 4 singles.
With the match already decided, the final two singles matches produced split results. At No. 5 singles, Mora and Cristobal battled to an unfinished 3-6, 7-5 result, while Caroline Brown defeated Amelia Greenawalt 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
