Women's Basketball Falls Short Despite Strong Fourth Quarter Effort Against Iona

New Rochelle, N.Y. — Niagara women's basketball dropped their 25th loss of the season 72-55 to Iona on Saturday afternoon at Hynes Athletics Center in New Rochelle, N.Y.
 
Chasity Wilson poured in a game-high 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-3 from beyond the arc, to pace the Purple Eagles' offense. The freshman guard added four rebounds and three assists and two steals while playing all but four minutes.
 
Talia Dial contributed 12 points, while Jade Campbell provided a spark off the bench with nine points on 3-of-5 shooting in just 10 minutes of action.
 
Niagara opened strong, racing to an 8-2 advantage behind back-to-back three-pointers from Wilson in the first quarter. The Purple Eagles maintained the lead until late in the opening period when Iona closed on an 11-2 run to take a 16-10 edge.
 
The Purple Eagles battled back in the second quarter, trimming a seven-point deficit to just two points on multiple occasions. Wilson's clutch jumper at the buzzer, followed by a Jordyn Williams free throw, brought Niagara within 27-25 at halftime.
 
Despite trailing by 17 points entering the final period, Niagara refused to quit. The Purple Eagles exploded for 21 fourth-quarter points, their highest-scoring period of the game. Wilson scored 10 points in the frame, while the team connected on 8-of-12 free throws to make the final margin more respectable.

• Wilson added her seventh career game scoring double-digit points along with her second game scoring 20 or more
