Baseball Falls in Season Opener

San Marcos, Tx - Baseball fell to Texas State 13-0 in their season opener Friday night in non-conference action.

The Purple Eagles start the season 0-1, while the Bobcats start 1-0.

The first inning of play was scoreless and saw starting pitcher Carter Fink strike out one batter. Texas State got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second with a two-run homer from C. Mora.

The game went scoreless for the next four innings, seeing Fink punch out three more batters. In the bottom of the third the Purple Eagles completed a triple play which saw Fink catch the line drive and throw it to Vivacqua at second who tossed it over to Shawn Cameron at first to close out the inning. 

Noah Konings recorded the first hit of the night for Niagara with a double to center field.

Andrew Damiani came in for relief, throwing .1 innings and closing out the fifth frame. Luke Glenn came in for relief in the sixth and surrendered three earned runs to start the seventh. 

Shawn Cameron recorded his first base hit of the season in the sixth to give Niagara their second hit of the night.

Texas State put up a nine spot in the seventh inning, led by an inside the park home run from J. Cotton. Hayden Morrison came in during the seventh inning for 0.2 innings, while Johnny Montgomery threw the final 1.1 innings.

The Bobcats put up two more runs in the eighth to secure the 13-0 victory. Cameron added his second hit of the night in the bottom of the ninth with a double down the right field line.
