Hockey Drops Contest to Sacred Heart

Niagara University, NY - Men's hockey dropped an Atlantic Hockey contest to Sacred Heart 5-4 in overtime Friday night at Dwyer Arena.

Niagara fell to 7-11-0, 4-6-0 AHA, while Sacred Heart improved to 10-7-2, 7-4-2 AHA.

Sacred Heart struck first when Stephane Huard scored an even-strength goal at 9:42, assisted by Gavin Bryant. 

The Purple Eagles responded quickly, pulling even at 8:19 when Nicholas Niemo tallied an unassisted goal.

Niagara took lead of the game at 6:40 when Jonathan Ziskie converted a Hunter Wallace assist to make it 2-1.

Sacred Heart equalized late in the frame when Huard netted his second goal of the period at 1:51, this time assisted by Ray Fust and Vitaly Levyy. The teams headed to intermission deadlocked at 2-2.

Niagara regained the lead at 13:30 when Dallon Melin scored from Davis Codd and Declan McDonnell, giving the Purple Eagles a 3-2 advantage. 

Sacred Heart capitalized on their second power play when Felix Trudeau scored at 9:03, assisted by Mikey Adamson and Joughin, knotting the score at 3-3.

Niagara retook the advantage at 16:25 when Noah Hackett scored from Glebs Prohorenkovs and Grayson Dietrich, making it 4-3 for the Purple Eagles. 

Sacred Heart answered quickly at 13:08 when Noah Ellis tied the game at 4-4, assisted by Trudeau and Joughin. 

The Pioneers needed just 3:36 to end it when Joughin fired home the game-winner, assisted by Reid Pabich and Adamson. 

Rolovs finished with 33 saves in the loss for Niagara, while Kendrick made 28 stops for Sacred Heart.
