Rochester, NY – Niagara and RIT traded goals Saturday night resulting in a 3-3 tie with RIT winning the shootout, 1-0 at the Gene Polisseni Center.
The Purple Eagles moved to 7-15-1, 4-10-1, while the Tigers are now 14-11-1, 10-7-1.
Niagara struck first when Jonathan Ziskie netted his second goal of the season at 9:37, assisted by Ray Murakami and Dallon Melin.
The Purple Eagles extended their lead to 2-0 at 15:21 when Spencer Young scored his sixth goal of the year, with helpers from Ethan Lund and Nicholas Niemo.
RIT responded quickly with a pair of power-play goals in the final minutes of the period. Zach Wigle converted at 17:41, assisted by Christian Catalano and Austin Brimmer, before Caleb Elfering tied the game just 17 seconds later at 17:58, with Brimmer picking up his second assist of the sequence.
The first period ended tied 2-2, with Niagara holding a 12-10 edge in shots.
Niagara regained the lead at 5:57 when Noah Hackett scored his seventh goal of the season. Grayson Dietrich and Ross Roloson provided the assists.
Mitchell Day was solid in net for Niagara, making all six saves in the period.
The Tigers' pressure paid off at 8:05 when William Moore notched the game-tying goal, assisted by Camden Bajzer and Xavier Lapointe.
Niagara called a timeout with 50 seconds remaining in regulation but couldn't regain the lead, setting up overtime with the score knotted at 3-3.
The five-minute overtime period was goalless, with limited chances for both sides.
In the shootout, Maxim Muranov, Young, and Hackett all missed for Niagara, while Evan Konyen beat Day in the second round to give RIT the extra point.
Day finished with 20 saves for Niagara, while Collin Mackenzie made 20 stops for RIT.
