Volleyball Opens MAAC Play With a Win Over Manhattan

Niagara University, NY - Niagara volleyball opened up MAAC play defeating Manhattan in straight sets in the Gallagher Center.

Set One

Niagara scored the first point of the game with a kill from Liana Tolliver off an assist from Kylie Blessing.

Manhattan got out to a 16-12 lead but kills from Kinga Wronska and Sydney Wilkes made it a one point set.

The Purple Eagles went on a four point run capped off by a kill from Tolliver to take a 21-19 lead. Niagara was able to hold on and take the first set of the contest 25-22.

Wilkes, Tolliver and Janiah Robinson all recorded three kills in the first set for the Purple and White. Blessing added eight assists.

Set Two

Robinson got the Purple Eagles on the board first once again to start set two. The set went back and forth before the Jaspers rallied off four straight points to take an 18-12 lead.

Niagara rebounded and put together six straight points of their own to take a 21-20 lead with kills from Payton Lee and Wronska.

The Purple Eagles held onto the lead, closing out set two 25-23 with another kill from Wronska.

Wronska recorded a team-high eight kills in the second set, while Blessing added eight more assists to her total.

Set Three

Manhattan jumped out to a 2-0 lead to start set three, but the Purple Eagles quickly answered to make it a 2-2 game with a kill from Robinson.

Both teams put together runs to trade the lead back and forth until Niagara led 18-17.

The Purple Eagles closed out the game with seven straight points. Wilkes tallied two kills, while Jacobs and Robinson added a kill apiece. Mia Schaefer also recorded a service ace in the run.

Niagara is now 32-26 all-time against Manhattan

The Purple Eagles won their conference opener for the second straight season

Wilkes led the team with 13 kills, tying a season-high

Wronska recorded a double double with 11 kills and 12 digs

Blessing tallied 21 assists, marking the fifth time this season she has recorded 20+
