Niagara University, NY - Niagara volleyball fell in three sets to Northwestern in their second contest of the Buffalo Classic at Alumni Arena in Buffalo, NY.
Set One
The Purple Eagles got out to a two point lead to start the game, with an attack error from the Wildcats and a kill from Liana Tolliver. The teams traded points until Northwestern put together a three point run to take a 10-7 lead.Â
The Wildcats scored seven of eight points to force Niagara to take the first timeout of the game with the Wildcats leading 16-10. Janiah Robinson recorded a kill out of the timeout break, but Northwestern tallied five more points which led to the Purple Eagles taking their second timeout of the set.
Northwestern tallied the final four points of the set to take it 25-12.
Tolliver and Sydney Wilkes both recorded two kills to lead the Purple and White, while Noel Perkins tallied three assists.
Set Two
Niagara once again got the first point of the set off an attack error from the Wildcats, and recorded three more off of Northwestern attack errors to take a 4-1 lead.
Kinga Wronksa led another three point run with a kill to make it a 9-4 lead for the Purple and White.
The teams traded points back and forth until Northwestern called a timeout with the Purple Eagles leading 23-22.
The Wildcats were able to score the final three points of the set and win 25-23.
Payton Lee led the Purple and White with three kills and Kylie Blessing recorded four assists. Wilkes and Taylor Jenkins both tallied two blocks a piece for Niagara.
Set Three
Northwestern got out to a 5-1 lead to start the third set, but their run was stopped by kills from Wronska and Jenkins.
The Wildcats took control of the set, not giving up the lead the rest of the way. The Purple Eagles made it a four point game multiple times but could not complete the comeback falling 25–19.
Game Notes
This was the first time Niagara had played Northwestern
Robinson led the Purple and White with six kills in the contest, along with five blocks
Blessing put up double digit assists once again with 12 this game
Kaitlyn Doyle made her Niagara debut recording two kills
