Pomona, N.Y. — Niagara (19-28, 14-17 MAAC) fell to Quinnipiac 10-5 in the first round of the MAAC Championships Tuesday at Clover Field.
How It Happened
Quinnipiac got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run to right field. The Bobcats doubled their lead in the fourth with an RBI double off the bat of Constable.
The Bobcats put up a six spot in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by a grand slam from Chris Smith to make it an eight run game.
The Purple Eagles responded with five runs of their own in the top of the seventh inning, starting with a sacrifice fly from Curtis McKay to plate Tyler Vivacqua followed by a single off the bat of Jason Green to bring home Rees Kozar. Jacob Brooks joined the party with an RBI single to score Vincent Mauro while Evan Wilde capped off Niagara's scoring with a two-RBI single.
Quinnipiac got one run back in the bottom of the frame with another solo home run this time from Sebastian Mueller. Niagara got the bases loaded in the top of the eighth but could not capitalize and the Bobcats were able to add an insurance run in the bottom of the frame.
Matthew DelVecchio got the start for the Purple and White, throwing 4.1 innings, before Maximillian Ramirez IV came in for relief to toss 0.2 innings. Gage Wheaton came on to pitch for the final 3.0 innings.

• Green set a career-high in hits with his four base knocks and recorded his 10th multi-hit game of the season.
