Niagara Drops Series to Quinnipiac

Niagara University, N.Y. - Niagara (8-18, 4-8 MAAC) dropped the final game of the three game MAAC series against Quinnipiac 9-5 at Bobo Field.

How it Happened

After three scoreless innings to start the game, both teams got on the scoreboard in the fourth. Quinnipiac put up two runs in the top half of the frame, while Tyler Vivacqua tripled to give the Purple Eagles their first run of the contest.

The Bobcats gained a two run lead in the top of the fifth, but the Purple Eagles rallied back in the bottom of the frame to tie up the game at three. Vincent Mauro hit a sac fly to bring home Curtis McKay, while Rees Kozar singled to plate Jacob Brooks.

Quinnipiac took hold of the game in the sixth, putting up six runs highlighted by a bases clearing triple from Gabe Wright. Niagara tried to mount a comeback in the back half of the game putting up two runs in the bottom of the eighth with Vivacqua bringing home Jason Green and Evan Wilde coming in to pinch hit and sending a ball over the fence.

Nate Bennett (1-6) got the start on the mound for the Purple Eagles, throwing 5.0 innings, allowing seven runs - five earned on six hits. Luke Gleen relieved Bennett allowing two runs on one hit during his one inning pitched. Maximilian Ramirez IV got the call for the final three innings of the contest, allowing no runs on two hits, while punching out three batters.

• Niagara is now 17-15 all time against Quinnipiac

• Kozar recorded his fifth multi-game of the season with his two base knocks.

• Hammill extended his team lead in stolen bases to seven swiping a bag in all three games of the series.

• Brooks extended his hitting streak to 16 straight games with three base knocks.

• McKay recorded two walks to extend his on base streak to 13 straight contests.
