Niagara Drops Series Finale to Rider

Lawrenceville, NJ — Niagara (9-28, 6-14 MAAC) dropped the final game of a three game MAAC series against Rider 12-4 (6) on Sunday.

How it Happened

Rider struck first in the top of the first inning, plating three runs, highlighted by a two-RBI triple from Wheeler. The Purple Eagles rallied back in the second to knot the game up at two, starting off with an RBI single from Sophia Marrero, followed by an RBI single from Jolyn Gibbons and Marrero scoring on a fielder's choice.

The Broncs regained the lead in the third with an RBI single, but the lead did not last for long as Natasha Limbani homered to once again tie the game in the bottom of the frame.

Rider took the lead for the final time in the game during the fourth inning, plating two runs, followed by six insurance runs in the fifth and the sixth, highlighted by a grand slam from Cruz.

Aubrey Tamayo got the start for the Purple and White, throwing 4.0 innings, allowing seven runs on 10 hits. Sage Jackson came on for the final 1.2 innings of the contest.

Niagara Notes

• Niagara is now 25-22 all-time against Rider.

• Limbani extended her hit streak to 11 games.

• Gibbons tallied her second multi-hit game of the season.
