FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Niagara (2-15, 0-3 MAAC) dropped the final game of a three-game series against Sacred Heart in MAAC Softball opening weekend at Pioneer Park, falling 6-1.
How it Happened:
Sacred Heart (14-13, 4-2 MAAC) struck first with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Leckrone singled while Teodosio followed that up with a two-RBI single to give the Pioneers a 3-0 lead.
Davis doubled the Pioneers lead with a three-RBI double in the bottom of the fourth. Selah Moyer homered in the top of the sixth inning to give the Purple Eagles their lone run of the contest. Sacred Heart tacked on three more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to enact the run rule.
Moyer and CJ Haney both recorded two hits while Kaylee Haines added Niagara's final hit of the contest.
Starting pitcher Sage Jackson (2-5) worked 3.1 innings, allowing six runs — five earned — on six hits. She struck out one and walked four. Jenna Martin came in for relief, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings, before Aubrey Tamayo came in for the final 0.2 innings allowing four runs.
