Niagara Drops MAAC Opener to Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Niagara (2-14, 0-2 MAAC) drops doubleheader against Sacred Heart in MAAC Softball opening weekend at Pioneer Park, falling 3-5 in the opener before losing a 3-12 decision.
Game 1: Niagara 3, Sacred Heart 5
The Purple Eagles struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning. Maggie Mayo doubled and came around to score on an RBI single from Brianna Delaney. Natasha Limbani added a run, crossing the plate on a sacrifice fly by Sophia Marrero.

Limbani led the Niagara offense, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI, including a run-scoring single in the fifth inning that brought the Purple Eagles within a run. Hailey Cenname added a hit and scored once.

Starting pitcher Sage Jackson (2-4) worked five innings, allowing five runs — only one earned — on seven hits. She struck out three and walked two. Aubrey Tomayo tossed a scoreless sixth in relief.

Game 2: Niagara 3, Sacred Heart 12 (6 inn.)
Niagara tallied three runs in the fourth inning to cut into a six-run deficit. First baseman Selah Moyer delivered a two-run single to left field, driving in Natasha Limbani and Brianna Delaney. Senior Bayleigh McCullough followed with an RBI single, scoring Moyer to make it a 6-3 game.

Delaney reached base twice for Niagara, singling and walking, while Limbani went 1-for-3 with a run scored. McCullough added a hit, an RBI, and a run scored.

In the circle, Jenna Martin (0-3) took the loss after surrendering five runs — four earned — over two innings. Aubrey Tamayo pitched 3.2 innings in relief, allowing seven runs, four earned, on seven hits.

Niagara's record drops to 6-5 all time against Sacred Heart.
• The Purple Eagles have lost 13-straight games.
• The Purple and White recorded a team high in assists in game one with 12. Limbani led the team with six.
• Moyer recorded a game high for putouts recording 11.
