WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. — Niagara's early lead evaporated as Marist rallied for a 6-1 victory in conference baseball action Friday afternoon.
How it Happened
The Purple Eagles (2-11, 0-1) jumped ahead in the first inning when right fielder
Nate Milk homered to left field, but were unable to generate any further offense against Marist's pitching staff.
Marist (4-11, 2-2) took control in the third inning, scoring four runs highlighted by Rodriguez's two-run double that gave the Red Foxes a lead they would not relinquish. Rodriguez later scored on a balk, and Claiborn added another run by scoring on a wild pitch.
Niagara was limited to just seven hits despite several promising opportunities.
Shawn Cameron had a productive day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk, but was caught stealing twice.
Jacob Brooks and Milk also contributed two hits for the Purple Eagles.
The Purple Eagles' pitching struggled with control throughout the game. Starter
Matthew DelVecchio (1-3) took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on three hits while issuing four walks in four innings of work.
Johnny Montgomery provided solid relief, throwing four scoreless innings while allowing just two hits.
Marist's Taylor (2-0) earned the win, holding Niagara to one run over six innings while striking out four. Marzo and Kempler combined for three scoreless innings of relief to secure the victory.

• Niagara is 7-3 against Marist over the last 10 meetings with Friday's loss marking the first to the Red Foxes since May 5, 2023.
• Niagara had not lost a regular-season road game to Marist since April 24, 2021.
• Montgomery pitched a season-high four innings.
• Milk recorded his fifth game with at least two hits. His first-inning homer was the fourth of his career and first of 2025.
• Cameron extended his hit streak to six games.
• Brooks notched two hits for the second time in three games. Five of juniors 10 hits on the season have come in the last three games.
