ORLANDO, Fla. — Niagara University women's tennis continued its strong spring showing Thursday, defeating West Chester University 6-1 in a convincing non-conference victory in Orlando.
The Purple Eagles swept all three doubles matches before capturing five of six singles courts to secure the win, improving their overall record this season.
Niagara's doubles teams set the tone early, with the duo of
Gabriela Melo and
Isabel Garcia shutting out West Chester's Delaney Tingle and Alexandra Cave 6-0 in the first position. The momentum continued as
Saloni Tamang and
Mercedes Velasco earned a tiebreaker victory (7-6, 7-4) at second doubles, while
Valeria Mora and
Larisa Kotok completed the sweep with a 6-1 win in the third spot.
In singles play, Niagara demonstrated its depth with dominant performances across the lineup.
Isabel Garcia defeated Ashleigh Grooms 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, while
Larisa Kotok overwhelmed Alexandra Cave at third singles, dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Velasco continued the Purple Eagles' momentum with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Gabriella Lerario at fourth singles.
Saloni Tamang and
Amelia Greenawalt rounded out Niagara's singles victories with straight-set wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
West Chester's lone point came from top singles player Delaney Tingle, who outlasted Niagara's
Gabriela Melo in a hard-fought three-set match, 7-6, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8).
