Hubie Brown Bids Farewell with Final Broadcast Sunday

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer and Niagara University alumnus Hubie Brown will conclude his legendary broadcasting career Sunday afternoon when he provides analysis for ESPN's coverage of the Milwaukee Bucks-Philadelphia 76ers game.

Brown, 91, played basketball and baseball for the Purple Eagles from 1952-55, caps a broadcasting career that spans more than three decades and includes coverage of 18 NBA Finals across television and radio.

The two-time NBA Coach of the Year began his broadcasting journey in 1987 following his first retirement from coaching. He served as lead analyst for both CBS and TNT, earning the Basketball Hall of Fame's Curt Gowdy Electronic Media Award in 2000 for his contributions to basketball broadcasting.

Brown's storied career includes leading the Memphis Grizzlies to their first-ever playoff appearance in 2004 and coaching the Kentucky Colonels to an ABA Championship in 1975. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005, becoming just the second Niagara University graduate to receive that honor.

Before his professional success, Brown's journey began at Niagara University, where he competed in both basketball and baseball. His coaching career started at St. Mary's School in Little Falls, N.Y., before assistant coaching stints at William & Mary and Duke University and the Milwaukee Bucks under Niagara teammate Larry Costello from 1972-74.

Earlier this year, Brown was selected for induction into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2024, cementing his legacy in both basketball and broadcasting.
