ITHACA, N.Y. — In its first-ever meeting with Cornell, the Niagara Purple Eagles fell to the Big Red by a final score of 24-7 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
How it Happened
The Big Red (3-1) jumped to a commanding 10-3 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, extending their advantage to 16-5 by halftime. Cornell's offensive onslaught continued after the break, outscoring the Purple Eagles 8-2 in the second half.
For Niagara (1-3),
Giordan Peck and
Maddy Gill each scored twice, while
Michaela Delles,
Olivia Ng, and
Hannah Kent added one goal apiece. The Purple Eagles struggled to generate assists, with all seven goals coming unassisted.
Kylie Gelabert led Cornell with seven goals, while Ella Wilmot contributed three goals and five assists. Caitlin Slaminko added a hat trick and two assists as 13 different Cornell players found the back of the net.
Niagara goalkeeper
Haley Terry made just one save while allowing 18 goals in nearly 37 minutes of action.
Abby Penfield relieved Terry in the third period and recorded two saves while conceding six goals.

• Tuesday's meeting with Cornell was the first-ever between Niagara and the Big Red.
• Three of Niagara's seven goals came on free-position attempts, giving NU nine on the season.
• Gill recorded her second multi-goal effort of the season.
• Delles recorded her third goal of the season and first since the season opener on Feb. 9 against Arizona State.
• Penfield made her collegiate debut in the loss.
