NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. - Glebs Prohorenkovs scored twice as Niagara defeated rival Canisius 6-2 on Tuesday night in their first Battle of the Bridge matchup this season.

The Purple Eagles (15-12-3, 13-7-2) took control early when
Trevor Hoskin opened the scoring midway through the first period. Niagara broke the game open in the second, with goals from Prohorenkovs,
Tyler Wallace, and
Drew Vieten to build a 4-0 lead.

After Canisius (9-19-2, 9-11-2) cut the deficit to 4-2 with two quick goals early in the third period, Niagara sealed the win with a pair of empty-net goals. Prohorenkovs notched his second of the night with just over three minutes remaining, and
Spencer Young added another empty-netter in the final minutes.

Pierce Charleson stopped 36 shots for Niagara in the victory.
