Women’s Basketball Falls in Season Opener Against St. Bonaventure

Niagara University, N.Y. — St. Bonaventure pulled away in the second half to defeat Niagara 74-56 Friday night handing the Niagara their first loss of the young season at Gallagher Center, in Niagara University, N.Y.

Niagara struggled offensively for much of the game, shooting just 36.8% from the field and connecting on only four of 13 three-point attempts going 30.8%.

Chasity Wilson led Niagara with 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting in 28 minutes. Jisca Bila provided a spark off the bench with eight points, including a pair of three-pointers.

Talia Dial scored seven points while adding two steals. Tyasia Freeman contributed six points and two rebounds off the bench, while Katarina Veljovic added five points in 25 minutes.

The Purple Eagles trailed 33-23 at halftime and fell behind by as many as 25 points in the third quarter. Niagara mounted a late rally in the fourth quarter, outscoring St. Bonaventure 27-22 in the final period.
