Niagara University, N.Y. — Ethan Lund scored 2:26 into overtime to give Niagara a 2-1 victory over RIT on Tuesday night Dwyer Arena in Niagara University, N.Y.
After RIT's Evan Konyen opened the scoring late in the first period at 16:26, Niagara answered early in the second when
Tyson Zimmer found the back of the net just 2:02 into the frame. The goal, assisted by
Grayson Dietrich and
Jacob Maillet, to knot the score at one.
The game remained deadlocked through a tense third period, with both teams trading chances but unable to break through. Niagara's goaltending tandem proved crucial down the stretch.
Tomas Anderson started and played 50:13, turning aside 23 shots to keep the Purple Eagles in contention.
Deivs Rolovs went in relief at the 10:14 mark of the final frame. Rolovs was perfect in his time on the ice, stopping all three shots he faced. Most critically, Rolovs denied Tyler Mahan just 23 seconds before Lund's overtime winner, with the assist credited to
Maxim Muranov.
