Niagara University, NY – The Niagara Purple Eagles dropped a 4-1 decision to visiting RPI on Friday night at Dwyer Arena.
The loss drops Niagara to 6-7-0 on the season. Rensselaer improved to 4-11-0 with the victory.
The Engineers struck at the 12:50 mark when Luciano Wilson scored unassisted, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission.
Niagara knotted up the contest at 7:11 when Noah Hackett netted his third goal of the season, with assists from Glebs Prohorenkovs and Marshall Finnie, tying the game at 1-1.
Just over four minutes later, Wilson struck again for his second goal of the night, restoring RPI's lead at 11:15. The Engineers capitalized just 73 seconds later when Jack Gorton made it 3-1 at 12:28.
Niagara generated only five shots in the period despite their faceoff prowess, while Rolovs kept his team in striking distance with 15 saves.
Cole Gordon extended Rensselaer's lead to 4-1 at 10:32, effectively putting the game out of reach.
