Hockey Falls to Robert Morris

Niagara University, NY – Niagara fell to Robert Morris 4-3 on Saturday night in Dwyer Arena as the Purple Eagles fell to 3-4-0, 0-2-0 on the young season.

The Colonials got on the board early, with Tanner Klimpke scoring just 1:38 into the opening frame. Cameron Garvey assisted on the tally, giving Robert Morris an early 1-0 advantage.

Niagara generated multiple chances throughout the period, outshooting the visitors 14-12, throughout the first frame. 

Robert Morris doubled its lead midway through the second period when Ryan Taylor capitalized on a power play opportunity at 10:51. Taylor finished a setup from Bruce McDonald and Michael Craig to make it 2-0.

The Colonials added to their advantage late in the frame, as George Krotiris scored with just 43 seconds remaining in the period. McDonald recorded his second assist of the night, with Jackson Reineke also contributing on the play. 

Niagara finally broke through at 7:51 of the final period when Tyson Zimmer scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Dallon Melin to make it a 3-1 game.

Three minutes later, Marshall Finnie brought Niagara within one, finishing off feeds from Noah Hackett and Glebs Prohorenkovs to make it 3-2. 

Robert Morris answered just nine seconds after Finnie's goal, Braden Rourke scored what proved to be the game-winner on an assist from Patrick Johnson, restoring the two-goal advantage.

The Purple Eagles tried to mount a late comeback with Deivs Rolovs pulled for an extra attacker, Jacob Maillet cut the deficit to 4-3 with assists from Spencer Young and McDonnell at 17:57 but it was not enough as the Colonials held on for the 4-3 victory.
