Niagara University, NY - Niagara volleyball stays undefeated in conference play with a four set victory (23-25, 25-21, 25-10, 25-18) over Quinnipiac in Hamden, CT.
The Purple Eagles improve to 5-8, 5-0 MAAC, while the Bobcats fall to 6-11, 3-2 MAAC.
Set One
Niagara got out to a 5-2 lead to start the game with kills from Janiah Robinson, Payton Lee and Kinga Wronska.
Quinnipiac got out to a 16-11 lead before the Purple Eagles used their first timeout of the set. Out of the timeout break Niagara got points off a Bobcats attack error and a kill from Wronska.
Niagara went on a five point run towards the end of the set and made it a 23-22 game and forced Quinnipiac to call a timeout, but the Bobcats were able to hold on 25-23.
Wronska led the Purple and White with five kills in the first set, while Kylie Blessing, Noel Perkins and Mia Schaefer all recorded three assists a piece.
Set Two
The Purple Eagles recorded the first two points of the second set with a kill from Robinson and a block from Robinson and Wronska.
The Bobcats took a 10-7 lead but Niagara put together a five point run to regain the lead with kills from Liana Tolliver and Sydney Wilkes.
Niagara ended the set with five straight points, including three straight aces from Blessing to take set two 25-21.
Tolliver recorded five kills to lead the Purple Eagles in the set. Perkins led Niagara with five assists as well.
Set Three
Niagara dominated the entire third set starting on a 13-3 run. Tolliver and Lee both recorded two kills, Wronska and Robinson both added one kill a piece and Tolliver added a service ace.
Aces from Wronska and Schaefer and kills from Wilkes and Tolliver grew Niagara's lead to 21-6, their biggest of the set which forced the Bobcats to call a timeout.
Out of the timeout Quinnipiac scored three straight points, but the Purple Eagles were able to close out the set 25-10 with kills from Tolliver and Lee.
Tolliver once again led Niagara with five kills in the set and Blessing added five more assists to her total.
Set Four
The teams traded points back and forth throughout the beginning of the set until Niagara was able to gain a 13-11 lead with a kill from Tolliver.
The Purple Eagles grew their lead to 17-12 and didn't look back. They added four straight points to make it a 23-16 set with a kill from Tolliver and an ace from Schaefer.
Lee ended the game with a kill to take set three 25-18.
