Purple Eagles Fall to UMBC

BALTIMORE, MD. – Niagara fell to 0-3 on the season with a 4-0 defeat at the hands of UMBC Friday night in non-conference action. The Retrievers move to 2-0-1 on the season.

How it Happened
The game would remain in a stalemate for the first 37 minutes of play until the Retrievers flipped the game on its side with a pair of goals in a 25-second span, both of which were scored by UMBC's Ryan Calheira.

It wouldn't be long until UMBC made it a 3-0 goal as Spencer Hanks scored for the Retrievers.

Niagara would go into the break being outshot 11-4 and trailing by three.

The Purple and White would get a pair of shots off in the 48th and 50th minute off the boot of Felix Kogler and both found the hands of the Retriever keeper.

Niagara would get a pair of corner opportunities in the 68th and 69th minute of action, both of which were thwarted by the Retrievers, protecting their three-goal advantage.

Landon Hungerford would get the ball on goal in the 74th minute of play and Kogler would attempt a shot on a set piece opportunity in the 75th minute, but once again, UMBC's keeper would make the stop on both attempts to keep the shutout intact.

With less than 12-minutes to go Kogler would put one in the chest of the UMBC keeper as Niagara continued to stay aggressive despite the 3-0 lead by the Retrievers.

The Retrievers would make it a 4-0 game in the final 10 minutes as the ball deflected off a Niagara defender and redirected away from Barry.
