Navy Blanks Niagara in Monday Night Non-Conference Action

ANNAPOLIS, MD. – The Niagara men's soccer program dropped its Monday night contest to Navy by the final score of 3-0, falling to 0-4 overall on the season. The Midshipman, scored twice in the first half of play before adding their third goal of the contest in the second half.

How it Happened
The Midshipmen would strike first as a right-footed strike from Wyatt Stevens in the 20th minute deflected off a Niagara defender and past a diving Jamie Barry.

Navy took a two-goal advantage in the 43rd minute as a quick throw in caught Niagara off guard, leading to a goal from the right foot of Tommy Lockheart.

Felix Kogler, Gerard Lopez Forner, and Thomas Brooks would each get a shot on goal in the first half for Niagara, all of which found the hands of the Midshipman keeper. Barry finished the first half with one save.

Navy made it a 3-0 game in the 73rd minute when Wasswa Robbins snuck one past Barry and the near post.

The Purple and White had five taken five shots in the second half until getting one on goal in the 74th minute when Dominic Cintra attempted to get Niagara on the board following the Midshipman third goal.

Lopez Forner would nearly get Niagara on the board on a corner in the 77th minute, but the Navy keeper made the stop with his right hand, keeping the Purple Eagles off the board.

From there, Niagara would continue to push everyone forward, resulting into multiple chances and corners for the Purple and White, but no goals to speak of as Navy shutout the Purple Eagles, 3-0, on Labor Day.

Quote from the Head Coach
"We have had a rough start to the season, but we have learned so much about ourselves. We just need to commit to transition defense better, and we were unfortunate on the offensive side as we deserved a couple, but that is our game. We will continue to improve on these fixable issues, and prepare for Duquesne Thursday."

"I knew these 4 games would be very difficult for us, but also expose our weaknesses showing our guys everything we need to clean up to win the MAAC."
