Purple Eagles Fall To Fairfield

Niagara University, N.Y.—The Niagara baseball team fell in the second game of a three-game weekend series against Fairfield. The Stags defeated the Purple Eagles 6-0 on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened

The game did not see a run until the top of the fifth inning as both pitchers were cruising through four innings.

In the top of the fifth, Fairfield scored a pair of runs while not tallying a hit in the inning.

The Stags added to their lead in the top of the seventh as they scored a run with a sacrifice fly.

Fairfield added three insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 6-0 lead to the bottom of the ninth.

Niagara Notes

·       Preston Prince started on the mound for the Purple Eagles. He went 4.1 innings while allowing just one hit and two runs (one unearned) while striking out two batters. He induced six groundouts and five flyouts in the outing.

·       Steven Hospital allowed one unearned run in 2.2 innings while allowing just two hits, he struck out one.

·       Liam Reynolds pitched the final two innings for the Purple Eagles, he struck out two batters while three runs came across. He notched three flyouts and a groundout.

·       Vincent Mauro, Brady Desjardins, and Kelly Corl each had a hit in the game.

·       Desjardins extended his on-base streak to 22 games. He is also on a six-game hitting streak.

·       Nick Groves was hit by a pitch and extended his on-base streak to 21 games.

The Purple Eagles and Stags close out the weekend series on Sunday at John P. Bobo Field. Prior to first pitch, Niagara will honor its senior class. Senior day festivities will begin at approximately 11:25 a.m. with first pitch scheduled for noon.
