Niagara Dominates Quinnipiac in Regular-Season Finale

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Niagara (14-3, 7-2 MAAC) soared past Quinnipiac (2-13, 1-8 MAAC) in Sunday's regular-season finale, defeating the Bobcats 22-5 in MAAC women's lacrosse action from Niagara Field.
 
Riley Latray led Niagara with a nine-point outing on one goal and eight assists, followed by Andra Savage with seven points on five goals and two assists. Lois Garlow added four goals and two assists, Lexi Braniecki scored three and Rachel Crane, Maddy Gill, and Aly McPartland each found the back of the net twice in the win. Jordan Roy made 11 saves in the win.
 
Quinnipiac's Angelina Sparacio led the Bobcats with two goals and one assist for three points.
 
How it Happened
The Bobcats would score the first three goals of the contest, jumping out to a 3-0 lead less than four minutes into the contest. However, the Purple and White would go on a 14-0 run that lasted into the third quarter.
 
Of Niagara's 14 goals during the stretch, Garlow and Savage each tallied three apiece, with Garlow assisting on two others. Latray notched an assist five of the 14 goals.
 
Quinnipiac scored back-to-back tallies to make it a 14-5 game heading into the fourth, however, Niagara would rattle off eight goals, including two apiece from McPartland, Braniecki, and Savage, in the final stanza to cruise to victory.
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara improved to 11-2 all-time against Quinnipiac. The Purple and White have not lost to the Bobcats since 2002.
• The win secured the No. 2 seed for Niagara in the MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship, the programs highest seeding in the conference championship since the 2001.
• Latray's becomes the second Purple Eagle to record nine points in a game this season.
• Latray now has 95 assists on the season, eight behind Sandra Gallegos' program record of 103.
• Garlow now has 236 career points, one shy of matching Rachel MaCheyne's career record of 237.
• Roy recorded her fourth double-digit save effort of the season and first since March 9 at Binghamton.
• Gill recorded a team-best four caused turnovers while Crane collected a team-high four ground balls.
• Savage led Niagara with seven draw controls.
• With a caused turnover this afternoon, Huhtala has 89 career caused turnovers, two away from matching the program record held by Lauren Paul.

The Purple Eagles receive a first-round bye in the MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship for the first time since 2001. Niagara will play on Friday, May 3.
