Purple Eagles Split With Rider On Senior Day

Williamsville, N.Y.—The Niagara tennis teams closed out the home portion of their schedule as they hosted Rider in a MAAC match. The men's team suffered its first conference loss of the season as Rider won 4-3. The women's team improved to 3-0 in MAAC play with a 5-2 win over the Broncs.

Men's Recap

Doubles

The duo of Rohan Srivastava and Gurustat Makkar picked up the loan doubles win for the Purple Eagles as they won 6-2 in second doubles.

Trevor Masi and Tanner Bedard fell 7-5 in first singles.

The freshman duo or Vid Maric and José Maria García fell 6-2 in third doubles.

Singles

Bedard continued his strong season in first singles. He won his first set 6-2 before taking the match with a 7-5 win in the second set.

Maric won in third singles. He won his first set 6-4 before winning the match with a 6-2 win in the second set.

Makkar went 2-0 on the day as he won his singles match in fifth singles. He won his first set 6-4 before securing the sweep with a 6-2 win in the second set.

Women's Recap

Doubles

Niagara swept doubles to open the match. The duo of Elena Mayet and Larisa Kotok won in first doubles 6-1.

In second doubles the duo of Gabriela Melo and Coral Rodriguez edged out the Broncs 7-6.

Jaida Borg and Enrica Favaron took their third doubles match 6-4, it was their third win as a doubles pair, they are 2-1 in MAAC play.

Singles

The Purple Eagles saw wins in third, fourth, fifth, and sixth singles against Rider.

Melo picked up her eighth win of her freshman season as she won 6-1, 6-0 in third singles.

Borg was slotted in fourth singles and won her match in straight sets. Borg picked up her seventh win of the season and third MAAC win with a 6-4, 6-1 win.

Mercedes Velasco won in straight sets in fifth singles for her fifth win of the season. She won 6-2, 6-0 in her match.

Favaron picked up her second win of the day as she swept her sixth singles match. She won the first set 6-4 and won the second set 6-3. She improved to 9-6 overall and 3-0 in MAAC play.

The Purple Eagles hit the road for their first MAAC road match on Apr. 7. Niagara takes on Marist before closing out the regular season on Apr. 13 and 14 against Fairfield and Quinnipiac.
