TEMPE, ARIZ. – Despite a six-goal performance from graduate student
Lois Garlow, Niagara (1-1), fell to Arizona State (2-0) Sunday morning in non-conference women's lacrosse action.
Garlow matched her career-high with six goals while
Rachel Crane,
Andra Savage,
Lexi Braniecki and
Jaclyn Crane scored once in the loss. Senior
Riley Latray finished with four assists.
Three Sun Devils scored three or more goals in the win, led by four from Lydia Oldknow and three from Mina Scott and Shannon Urey.
How it Happened
The Sun Devils scored the opening marker with 14:20 on the clock and would take a 4-0 lead over Niagara by the 11:52 mark.
Arizona State's lead would grow to 6-0, forcing Niagara to make a change in net, replacing
Jordan Roy with sophomore and 2023 MAAC All-Rookie team selection,
Katie Ling.
With Arizona State up 9-0 on Niagara, the Purple and White would finally find the back of the net when Latray found Garlow for her third goal of the season with 58-seconds remaining in the opening stanza.
The Sun Devils would score four times in the second to take a 13-1 lead before Niagara scored its second of the game when Braniecki found a crossing Garlow for the graduate students second of the game and fourth of the season.
Garlow would get her third of the contest at the 1:01 mark of the first half when she picked up her initial free-position shot that was stopped by ASU keeper Katie Vahle and deposited the ball into the back of the net.
Braniecki and
Andra Savage would score in a two-minute span to make it a nine-goal game, 14-5, in favor of the Sun Devils. ASU would add one more before the end of the quarter to take a 15-5 lead into the final 15-minutes of action.
Niagara's sixth tally of the contest came from R. Crane on a free-position attempt, making the score 15-6 with 11:55 to play.
Garlow would score three-straight goals, all of which were assisted by Latray, in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to seven, 16-9, with five and a half minutes to go.
The final Purple Eagle goal of the game came from J. Crane with just over a minute to go.
