NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y.— Lars Rodne and
Shane Ott each recorded a goal and an assist as Niagara defeated Canadian university Guelph 5-2 in an exhibition game Monday at Dwyer Arena.
How it Happened
The Purple Eagles (8-8-3) dominated early, scoring three times in the first period. Rodne opened the scoring at 10:25, followed by Ott at 14:51 and
Trevor Hoskin just eight seconds later to build a 3-0 lead.
Kyler Kleven extended Niagara's advantage to 4-0 early in the second period before Guelph got on the board with Nolan Dann's short-handed goal at 17:42.
Grayson Dietrich restored the four-goal cushion for Niagara late in the second period.
The Gryphons added a power-play goal from Tristan De Jong in the third but couldn't overcome the early deficit.
Pierce Charleson and
Mitchell Day split time in goal for Niagara, combining for 23 saves. The Purple Eagles outshot Guelph 33-25 while winning 39 of 60 faceoffs.
